Saint Joseph boasts copious floral scents of violets and lavender set against a backdrop of purple raspberries. In the mouth, it's medium to full-bodied, with a wonderfully rich yet silky feel and plenty of airy, refreshing length on the finish. It should drink well on release and for at least a decade after that.Domaine Jean Louis Chave Hermitage 2019 - Very limited

Full-bodied, yet mineral-laced and undeniably classic wine from this estate. All of the components showed incredibly well, with the Le Méal offering classic sexiness, the Hermite being straight and focused, and the Bessards just as good as any Syrah out there. It shows the ripeness of the vintage, yet the purity of fruit is incredible. It’s another magical wine in an incredible series of awesome Hermitage from this family.J. L. The vineyards for Silène are hillside vineyards located in Larnage and Gervans. It is rare for Crozes to come from hillside granitic soil as most Crozes is situated on the alluvial valley floor. The granite soil produces a wine with more backbone and structure. The idea behind this Crozes is to balance the fruit of Syrah without compromising the tightness given by the granite.J. L. Inky ruby. Powerful aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry and olive, with a smoky undertone of dark chocolate and violet. Weighty dark berry and violet pastille flavors coat the palate, with velvety tannins providing shape on the back. Rich but not especially heavy, with very good finishing cling to the flavors of candied flowers and cracked pepper.J. L. Chave Hermitage - Blanche 2018

The terroir is very interesting for the white as it comes from a colder soil and gives aromas of peaches, hawthorne and acacia blossom.J. L. Chave Hermitage - Farconnet 2018 - 100% Syrah

The grapes come from 3 distinctive parts of the Hermitage hill. Diognières is at the base of the hill on alluvial soil brought by the river ages ago. It is a sandy clay soil with many small pebbles. It gives spice to the wine. The next parcel is Péleat. It sits above Diognières and is composed of more sand and limestone in the clay. It gives finesse to the wine. And finally, Greffieux sits at the base of Le Meal on the hill. Its soil consists of rolled river stones brought by the glaciers. It gives the flesh in the wine.J. L. Diaphanous straw-yellow. Mineral-driven aromas of pear nectar, tangerine and yellow plum, plus a subtle touch of jasmine. Juicy and tightly focused in the mouth, offering intense citrus and orchard fruit flavors that are underscored by suggestions of ginger and bitter quinine. The impressively long, penetrating finish shows lingering minerality and fine delineation.
