The 2012 Lassègue is a captivating wine of depth and integrity. On the nose, brooding purple aromas of violets, heady rose petals and lifted lilac notes create an elegant floral bouquet, seamless alongside classic Bordeaux aromatics of new leather, cigar box and pencil lead. On the palate, red and black fruit in perfect accord offer a union of brightness and gravitas. Red cherry, raspberries and wild strawberries entwine with darker, deeper expression of black currants and blackberries, captured in their prime of small, glossy berries. There is earth here, too, and forest floor. Mushrooms, truffle and anise join herbal tones of deep sage and lighter notes of fern, mint and bay leaf. Oak flavors from expertly matched toasting profiles couch the vintage in soft and rich notes of vanilla, toast and cedar.
